Dr Rahul Verma

MBBS, DRANZCOG, FRACGP

Dr Rahul Verma is the Founder and Medical Director of GPs in Aged Care and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

With over seven years’ experience in residential aged care across Victoria, he is dedicated to supporting older Australians and their families.

He understands that moving into aged care can be challenging, and believes families deserve clear communication, reassurance, and compassionate medical guidance.

Dr Verma manages complex conditions including dementia, frailty, chronic disease, and palliative care, focusing on comfort, continuity, and reducing unnecessary hospital transfers while ensuring dignity and respectful, high-quality care.

Neeru Samota

B.Sc Nursing, CDE, MSS, DipLeadMgt

Neeru Samota is the Clinical Operations Manager at GPs in Aged Care, bringing extensive nursing experience and a strong commitment to resident-centred care.

She oversees day-to-day operations, compliance, and coordination between GPs, aged care facilities, families, and allied health teams across Victoria.

Neeru ensures that clinical processes run smoothly, communication remains clear, and care delivery is organised and responsive.

With a background in aged care nursing, she understands the practical and emotional needs of residents and families.

Her focus is on professionalism, compassion, and maintaining high standards of safety, governance, and service excellence throughout the organisation.

What is GPs in Aged Care & who provides the care?

GPs in Aged Care is a dedicated medical service for residents in aged care homes, delivered by experienced, Australian-registered General Practitioners with a special interest in aged care.

How does a resident join this service?

Joining is easy—just like enrolling with a regular GP clinic. The only difference is, here the doctor comes to you instead of you going to the clinic.

How often do GPs visit, and what happens if a doctor isn’t available urgently?

Our GPs conduct regular in-person visits to facilities. If the GP is unavailable, we support nursing staff with timely telehealth or phone consultations when needed.

Do you handle prescriptions, referrals, and ongoing care?

Yes, we manage scripts (sent directly to pharmacies), chronic conditions, and referrals to specialists or allied health. Each resident is usually assigned a regular GP for continuity of care.

Can family members communicate with the GP?

Yes, with consent from the resident, we communicate with family via phone or participate in care conferences to ensure a collaborative approach.

Is the service bulk billed, and are after-hours options available?

All eligible services are bulk billed under Medicare. Special requests from family my incur additional fees which are not covered by medicare. After-hours needs are generally covered by locum services or the National Home Doctor Service if in -person visit from regular GP is not immediately possible.
